El Niño de Hualco

La procession du Niño de Hualco

ayant trouver un herbergement a Famatina pour nos chevaux a la Finca Olivera, nous avons rencontrer le petit fils de la famille -Daniel. En discutant nous parlons des Gauchos que nous avons croise pendant la journee, et qui s'en alle pour la procession du jour suivant.Il nous explique que le jour suivant il partira tot le matin avec son fils de 6 ans afin d'alle a la rencontre de la procession. pour nous c'est le parfait compromis, puisuqe nous etions TRES hesitant pendant la journee de faire demi-tour afin de pouvoir participer a une telle experience...

la procession du Niño de Hualco celebre la rencontre de 1850 d'un gaucho avec un tout petit garcon (de quelques centimetres) pres de la ville de Famatina.

C'est un evenement religieux mais aussi une fetes qui ressembles beaucoup de gens de la regions et qui feront le parcours de Angols a Famatina a pied, a velo, en voitures ou encore a cheval...

Donc le lendemain matin nous sommes parti vers 7h a la rencontre de cette foule en deplacement, et a la rencontre d'une des journee les plus special de notre Cabalgata. La rencontre avec la procession c'est fait quand nous sommes arrive aux gorges d'ou des centaines de personnes sont apparu . Mele a cette foule, peut etre une centaine de cavaliers auxquels nous nous sommes mele pendant que naissait la chair de poule sur nos bras, un sentiment d'unicite, comme une chose que sans doute on ne vit qu'une seule fois dans une vie.

Plusieurs arrets sont fait a des autels le long de la route pour rendre hommage et chanter pour le Niño de Hualco. Et puis l'arret dans un village pour la pause dejeuner. Encore une fois nous avons rencontrer plein de gens: Santiago the lyer, Chiqui, le Sheriff, qui font naitre en nous des emotions: parce que les echanges sont heureux et parce que pour eux c'est une chance de nous rencontrer...non, non c'est pour nous...merci a vous tous...

The Procession of the Nino de Hualco –

Having found a place for the horses and us at the Finca Oliveira we met the grandson of the finca – Daniel. We got talking and he mentioned that him and his son would ride towards the procession early in the morning of the following day. It sounded like the perfect compromise as having met all those gauchos on their way to Angulos we were sooo tempted to go back and join them.

The procession of the Nino de Hualco celebrates the encounter of a gaucho with this little boy in about 1850 near the town of

Famatina

. It is mostly a religious event but people of all ages take part and it is an important day of the yearly gaucho calendar…

We left at 7 the next day and made our way towards the crowd. It was going to be one of the most special days of the cabalgata so far…towards midday we started meeting the first cyclists and walkers and then slowly but surely the crowd of gauchos on horseback came towards us. It was an incredible sight: there was about 100 of them and we were going to be a part of it!

The procession lasted all day, with various stops along the way to bless the Nino, have some food and from midday on enjoy some of the gauchos´ favourite drink: vino and coke (called kalimocho in

spain

). What a day that was….we got to know a lot of the gauchos in the procession and enjoyed a lot of attention from all sides being the only ´tourist gauchos´ around. And it was a great way to practice our Spanish: a bit of wine to loosen the tongue and a brilliant atmosphere. And the best is: we even introduced a new word for their favourite drink even though it has a slightly different meaning here: kalimocho is a cow´s head without horns in gaucho slang. Oops.
