The last days in Barreal...

Well guys, you won´t be able to guess where we are at the moment and all the things that have happened in the past 2 weeks...

 We are back in Mendoza now and left Barreal 3 days ago...Barreal, the place that was to become the final destination of the "los tres adventure", the town which had no significance whatsoever for us before, actually changed the title of our cabalgata: instead of Salta to Mendoza, it has now been a cabalgata from Salta to Barreal. Roughly 200km were missing to Mendoza and the decision to stop in Barreal wasn´t an easy one, but lots of factors played a role for our final decision: Polvo could not be ridden anymore because of his wound on the back, Toffee had a swollen leg, the 200km to Mendoza would have had to be covered at night as they cross suuuper-deserty landscape with nothing inbetween really and on top of all that we were feeling pretty tired and exhausted ourselves. With the gendarmeria being really helpful and hospitable we took our time to think about what to do. Obviously there was a bit of disappointment involved about not having made it to the final destination, but then again, we´ve covered 1643km by horse in the last 3 months...so what the heck ... we decided that Barreal was to be the actual destination of our big adventure. Having made that decision we had to get organised hwo to sell the horses etc. and were pasta enough to be in this small enough town where getting to know people is pretty easy. We quickly had a few people interested in our 2 horses and Divina. I´m saying 2 horses and Divina, because Philippe is keeping Santy for reasons to be told later... To be honest it all went very quickly ... first there was Jonathan who really wanted to buy Divina and then there was Mario, the vet of the gendarmeria, a caring person and very competent vet, who offered to buy Polvo and Toffee. And not only had we sold the 3 within days, but also alot of our equipment (my saddle and bridle, my saddle bags, the ropes, the halters etc.).

The last few days in Barreal were spent preparing our departure for Mendoza and exploring the beautiful landscape around Barreal on horseback (the gendarmeria lent us their horses for that). We went on 2 mini-cabalgatas into the surrounding mountains and enjoyed one last sunrise over the Andes together including a full-scale breakfast and freshly brewed coffee.

Let me tell you, to realise that this cabalgata of ours, this way of life, has now come to an end will take a good while and was/is not without a heavy heart...

Vous seriez pas capable de vous imaginer qu'est ce qui ce passe maintenant et pendant les 2 dernières semaines....

Maintenant nous sommes de retour a Mendoza après avoir quitte Barreal il ya 3 ou 4 jours....Barreal qui finalement devenu la destination finale de "l'aventure de Los Tres", une ville qui ne signifiait rien pour nous et qui maintenant change le nom de notre cabalgata de Salta a Mendoza, pour de Salta a Barreal. En gros il nous manquait 200 bornes a Mendoza et la décision d'arreter a Barreal n'a pas etait facile, mais beaucoup de facteurs ont joue dans cette decisions finale: Polvo ne pouvait plus être monte a cause de son garrot, Toffee nous a fait une tendinite, les 200km restant auraient dut être effectues pendant la nuit parce que c'est un suuuuper-desert avec pas grand chose voir rien du tout au milieu, et pour finir on se sentait pas mal fatigue voir même un peu mort de fatigue... Avec l'aide de la gendarmerie et son hospitalité on a pris le temps de reflechir. Évidemment il y avait un peu de déception de ne pas ce rendre jusqu'à la destination prévu, mais nous nous sommes aussi rappelé que nous avons parcourut 1643km en 3 mois....ce qui est déjà pas trop mal o bastante lejo, c'est pourquoi nous avons décidé de choisir Barreal comme La destination de cette grande aventure. Ayant pris cette decision il fallait s'organiser pour vendre les chevaux , etc. et on a encore été asse pasta d'être dans une petite ville ou il etait facile et rapide de rencontrer du monde. On a rapidement eut quelques personnes intéressées pour les 2 chevaux et Divina, Je dis  2 chevaux et Divina, parce que Philippe garde Santy pour des raisons qui seront divulguees plus tard...Pour être franche tout est allé très très vite, d'abord il y a eut Jonathan qui voulait vraiment acheter Divina et après il a eut Mario, le veto de la gendarmerie, une personne attentionnée et un veto très compétent, qui a offert d'acheter Polvo et Toffee. Tout ça en 3 jours mas o menos en pensant qu'en même temps on a vendu une grande parti de notre équipement (la selle de Myrna et la bride, ses sacoches, les sacoches du cheval de bat, etc.)

Pendant les derniers jours a Barreal nous avons prepare nos petites affaires pour le depart vers Mendoza et aussi explore les beaux paysages des alentours a cheval ( les chevaux de la gendarmerie qui nous ete prete pour l'occasion). Nous avons fait 2 petites cabalgatas dans les montagnes environnantes et profite ensemble d'un dernier leve de soleil sur les Andes, incluant un petit dejeuner complet et du bon cafe comme on l'aime.

Ce qu'on doit vous dire, c'est que pour realiser que  cette cabalgata et cette facon de vivre qui est notre  en vient maintenant a sa fin, il va nous falloir un bon moment et ca ne va pas etre sans le coeur lourd...

Hi Myrna,

what an adventure! I really did and do enjoy all of your stories and I would have loved to be there as well.Just a bit of advice: stay there and travel as long as you can; work will come soon enough!!

alle fragen nach Kiki- ich auch! Vielleicht hat sie euch einfach verlassen, denn Katzen sind schon sehr eigenwillig. So habe ich in der Zeitung gelesen, dass Hunde "Besitzer" haben, Katzen aber "Personal"! Du hast ja zu Hause auch eine Katze und kannst das evt. bestätigen. Die tapferen Pferde sind verkauft samt Sattelzeug, somit ist euer Plan "aufgegangen". Bald seid ihr wieder zu Hause,wenn auch "schweren Herzens".
Ihr habt viele hilfreiche Menschen kennengelernt und Bewunderung erfahren! So wünsche ich Dir, "leichten Herzens" wieder den Alltag in Irland mit Deinen Touries zu beginnen: "Mir nach"!
